Veerle van Herk (1997) is an image maker from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In her work, she combines illustration and film. Fascinated by the way we shape our lives on earth, her work has a strong focus on human behaviour. In both the style of illustration, as well as her cinematic work, emotion is hidden behind straight and carefully composed observational scenes. She wants to show how grand social concerns can coexist with aesthetics and lightness.
Veerle van Herk graduated with honors from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and completed her masters in Arts & Society at Utrecht University. In 2023, she won the Fiep Westendorp Stimuleringsprijs. In addition to her work as an illustrator, Veerle is an image editor for De Correspondent.
